Hawks Prove Realism of Woewee’s Flytech Dragonfly
Wowwee! Home Robot manufacturer Wowwee could not have bought publicity like this if they tried! The goal of any robotics company making simulated lifeforms is to make them as lifelike as possible, hopefully to the point they fool other living lifeforms. Wowwee’s FlyTech Dragonfly, the world’s first remote-controlled flying insect, has met that challenge by fooling real life Hawks. Without any effort by Wowwee’s marketing department, publicized reports of hawks attacking FlyTech Dragonflys are making news, providing evidence of the realistic nature of their product. An article (click for image of article) in the Manhasset Press, fifth grader Danny McGorry tells the story his Dragonfly’s losing battle with a Red-tailed hawk.
Danny reports: “It was now five feet in the air and I was only five feet away from it when a hawk swooped down and took the Dragonfly right out of the air! This happened too quickly for me to react, My mouth dropped open; I stood there saying to myself over and over ‘That just didn’t happen!’ I saw the light in the Dragonfly’s eyes fading away. I ran inside yelling, ‘It took it! It took it!’ ... The hawk had my Dragonfly in his talons. First he looked at us; then he started pecking at my toy! ... I saw the hawk tear off my toy’s plastic wings and its Styrofoam body was ripped up and fell to the ground.”
Nope, you can’t buy marketing like that.
WowWee’s Customer Service Department has received 45 different calls over the past two months about hawks and other bird of prey swooping down and snatching consumers’ FlyTech Dragonfly out of the air.
